The Chinese language module 3-1 is one of the main courses of the three-year degree course in Languages, cultures and societies of Asia and Mediterranean Africa and aims to provide students with tools and skills at an intermediate level in the linguistic field. translatological. The goal is to make it possible for them to apply their language skills and abilities in different communication situations, as well as in the reading and interpretation of simple texts on cultural topics, so as to make them a key tool for acquiring a solid understanding of Chinese contemporary society and culture.
Achievement of a level of linguistic competence equivalent to level B1 + of the CEFR (Common European Framework of Reference for Knowledge of Languages). In particular:
1. Knowledge and understanding
• Have a solid understanding of the grammar system of the modern Chinese language.
• Acquire a vocabulary that includes general terms sufficient for approaching texts in the language and for sustaining a conversation (active competence).
2. Ability to apply knowledge and understanding
• Be able to translate correctly into Chinese sentences including relatively complex grammatical structures.
• Understand written texts on general and cultural topics, in order to be able to answer specific questions on the involved topics.
• Be able to use in writing a lexicon of about 1600 words and 1120 characters.
• Be able to hold a basic conversation on general and cultural topics.
3. Judgment skills
• Knowing how to assess the level of one's knowledge, skills and language competences.
4. Communication skills
• Knowing how to communicate the specifics of linguistic and textual analysis, using appropriate terminology.
5. Learning skills a
• Knowing how to relate the different study contexts and apply one's knowledge, skills and abilities for personal and professional growth.
• Have an excellent theoretical and practical knowledge of the Italian language: be able to express oneself correctly both in written and oral form and master the tools of grammar and logical analysis.
• Having passed the Chinese Language 2 exam.
The course develops the ability to understand and translate simple Chinese texts on general and cultural topics. It also provides oral linguistic skills in Modern Chinese, and consolidates the ability to translate sentences, including relatively complex grammatical structures into Chinese. Specifically, it offers:

• reading, translation, and grammatical and translational commentary of short Chinese texts of general and cultural content, study of the main written chinese structures (shumianyu 书面语); training in consulting the paper dictionary: 30 hours of theory and practice;

• training in linguistic interaction in general and cultural communication contexts: 60 hours of exercises A (conversation)
• training in the translation into Chinese of sentences including even relatively complex grammatical structures: 60 hours of exercises B (translation);
• conversation tutoring for small groups: exercises C;
• translation tutoring for small groups: exercises D.

The verification of acquired abilities and skills is carried out through three tests:
- Chinese-Italian translation of a short text, with linguistic and content-related questions, topics covering culture or general issues (only paper dictionary, 250 characters, 1 hour);
- Conversation in Chinese;
- Italian-Chinese translation of a few sentences (no dictionaries, 25 minutes).

The lecturer has a duty to ensure that the rules regarding the authenticity and originality of exam tests and papers are respected. Therefore, if there is suspicion of irregular conduct, an additional assessment may be conducted, which could differ from the original exam description.

The final grade is the result of the average of the grades of the three parts of the exam. Each part of the exam is passed with minimum of grade 18 and maximum 30, and the individual grids are given before the exam.
Teaching is organized in:
a) front lessons;
b) writing and conversation practice aimed at building and consolidating the knowledge, skills and competences necessary to meet the goal of the course;
c) tutoring aimed at discussing and clarifying specific language problems that emerged during the teaching.

This subject deals with topics related to the macro-area "Human capital, health, education" and contributes to the achievement of one or more goals of U. N. Agenda for Sustainable Development
