The course is aimed at providing a basic introduction to the main legal systems of East Asia in an historical-comparative perspective. Specific attention is devoted to the Chinese system, but also Japanese, Korean and South-east Asian legal environment is broadly described.
By attending the course, stidents will acquire a set of basic notions on East Asian legal systems and will be able to frame their linguistic and cultural stydies within an appropriate institutional contest
The course has no pre-requisites
The course is an introduction to contemporary legal institutions of Asia, with specific reference to China. Specific attention will be devoted to Asian legal history and theory, constitutional organization and civil and comemrcial law

Learing outcomes will be verified by written test, by two questions (open-answer and open-book) of equal value. Answers shall not exceed a given number of words (generally 500).
The evaluation of assignments will be based on the understanding and command of the subject, on the capability to hierarchize concepts within the given length limits, on the appropriate use of legal terminology and Chinese characters, and on the possible presence of specific mistakes, omissions and inaccuracies.

The instructor is responsible for ensuring the authenticity and originality of all examinations and coursework. In cases of suspected academic misconduct, an additional on-site assessment may be required during the exams, which may differ from the standard format.

Grades are given in a scale of 30 on the basis of the above assessment.
