The course aims to provide students with a historical-artistic, archaeological, and urbanistic overview of the classical world, both Greek and Roman, through a journey that, starting from Archaic Greece, reaches Late Antiquity, ultimately highlighting the continuing influence of classical culture in the modern world.
Students will acquire a basic understanding of the key aspects of the classical world and develop the essential critical tools needed to consciously approach the specific issues of classical antiquity, which will prove valuable throughout their subsequent studies in the Foundation Year.
The course does not require any specific prerequisites.
The course aims to promote an understanding of the main cultural and artistic phenomena of the Greek and Roman world from its origins to Late Antiquity, with a particular focus on concepts of classical archaeology and art history. It seeks to provide students with essential insights and critical perspectives to develop an informed contextualization and independent appreciation of the major masterpieces of Greek and Roman culture, while emphasizing their enduring relevance and influence in the modern world.
Most of the reference material will consist of the slides uploaded on Moodle. Additional bibliographical references will be provided during the course and for the preparation of the final exam.
Group work and individual oral examination on topics and materials provided by the teacher. The questions will focus exclusively on the contexts, themes, and periods covered during the lectures. Written and oral exams.

The course includes a mid-term assessment and a final examination in the form of a presentation or written essay. Grades are expressed on a thirty-point scale (/30). Students must achieve a minimum grade of 18/30 (equivalent to 60%) in all assessments in order to pass the course.
The course will be conducted mainly through lectures, PowerPoint presentations, and teaching materials uploaded on Moodle.
Attendance of at least 70% of the classes is mandatory. Every absence will be counted, even if unavoidable or justified with documentation.
