This first module gives students a comprehensive view of the principles and practices of business manage-ment. It is structured as a concise framework that links the main business disciplines and provides an over-all perspective useful for organising subsequent management studies.
The course content is built around the four "pillars" of planning, organisation, management, and control of companies, exploring both the theoretical principles and the operational activities of managers in depth. The study perspective extends to the short, medium, and long term, from defining objectives to developing and implementing a strategy. The course also investigates how companies develop and maintain a competi-tive advantage within an operating context that is constantly evolving and influenced by multiple political, economic, social, technological, legal and environmental factors.

This course enables students to understand:
- What the main activities underlying the functioning of companies are and how they develop;
- How managers manage business organizations in a dynamic global environment;
- How companies develop and maintain a competitive advantage;
- How managers use problem-solving strategies and critical thinking skills in real-life situations.
There are no formal prerequisites for this course. However, a prior knowledge of organizational and managerial issues would facilitate the understanding of the topics discussed in class.

On each official exam date, the examination consists of a single written test covering both modules: "Princi-ples of Management" (Module 1) and "International Accounting” (Module 2). The exam lasts 60 minutes.
The exam is written and administered via the Moodle platform. It consists of 35 multiple-choice questions, divided into two parts: 15 questions on Module 1 (grade range 0 to 30) and 20 questions on Module 2 (grade range 0 to 30). The final grade is the average of the grades achieved in the two parts. To pass the ex-am, students must score at least 18/30 in each module. The use of books or notes is not permitted. Stu-dents who answer all questions correctly are awarded the laude.
