The course offers a general knowledge of aspects of European history in the 19th and the 20th centuries. A special attention is given to the construction of nations, the development of extra-Europena empires, the genesis and development of fascisms, and to the prevailing political ideas and categories, such as "race", from orientalism to its most radical degenerations.
The student is supposed to familiarize himself or herself with European events between the Nineteenth century and the first half of the Twentieth century with a special focus on political and cultural events In Italy, France and Germany. A special attention if given to the age of empires, fascisms, and their categories, especially "race".

Students must know the major moments and themes of the period between the age of empires and the Secod World War, regarding France, Italy and Germany.
There will be 2 questions asked for each monograph from the bibliography

The lecturer has a duty to ensure that the rules regarding the authenticity and originality of exam tests and papers are respected. Therefore, if there is suspicion of irregular conduct, an additional assessment may be conducted, which could differ from the original exam description.

The grading will be based on: the level of knowledge and of understanding of the reading list for the exam, on the ability to report with appropriate languages the contents of the reading list and to develop thoughts on the exam readings and on related issues, also in an independent way.
Students who are able to report the basic contents of the reading list will receive a "pass" (18-22/30); students who are able to report with confidence and to elaborate on the contents of the reading list will receive a B grade (22-26/30); students who are able to elaborate on and interpret the content of the readings, to report it with apropriate language and to show the ability to go into details wil receive and A grade (27-30/30 lode).
