Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Lingua Catalana offers communicative courses for beginners and advanced students and aims to introduce students to the Catalan language and culture. The course offers students the basic skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing in the Catalan language. The general objective of the teaching is to develop all the linguistic skills to reach from an A2 to a B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
Expected learning outcomes
The Catalan language exercises module aims to develop solid language skills, focusing on the acquisition of a vocabulary appropriate for everyday communication situations and mastery of grammatical structures, with the goal of reaching level B2 of the CEFR. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand and produce written and oral texts from level A2 to B2, correctly using the syntactic, morphological, and phonological resources of the language. The course promotes the independent application of the knowledge acquired in real communicative contexts, encouraging linguistic analysis and the conscious use of the Catalan language in everyday situations.
MODULO TEORICO
1. To become familiar with the most important concepts in sociolinguistics as they relate to the Catalan context.
2. To understand the current state of knowledge regarding the use of language in contemporary Catalan society.
3. To analyze and understand the main differences in the Catalan language and its varieties in different communicative situations.
4. To read, analyze, and understand texts in Catalan.
5. Express opinions and present arguments regarding specific topics discussed in class and/or during presentations.
6. Examine the development of the Catalan language from a historical perspective, particularly in relation to the work of specific cultural figures such as writers, poets, cultural mediators, journalists, activists.
