Contribution of the course to the overall degree programme goals
Technologies are not presented simply as a set of software applications to learn, but as tools that support translators in linguistic analysis, research and decision-making. In Module 1, students will acquire knowledge and skills relating specifically to the use of the computer-assisted translation software Trados Studio 2024.

1. Submission, during the course, of Trados Studio 2024 assignments completed in class and at home
2. An oral examination including conceptual and practical questions on Trados Studio 2024
Students may take the oral examination only if all compulsory assignments have been correctly submitted according to the procedure specified by the Course Instructor, by the deadlines set for each examination session, and completed in accordance with the instructions provided. Compulsory assignments will be assessed on a PASS/FAIL basis and will not directly contribute to the final grade.
Type of exam
The instructor is responsible for ensuring the authenticity and originality of all examinations and coursework. In cases of suspected academic misconduct, an additional on-site assessment may be required during the exams, which may differ from the standard format.
Grading scale
The four questions will be balanced between conceptual questions and practical tasks requiring a demonstration on the Course Instructor’s computer. They will cover only the Trados Studio 2024 topics addressed during the course.
The grade will be awarded according to the following criteria:
• Below 18 = fail: no answer or a substantially incorrect answer to at least three of the four questions; insufficient conceptual knowledge and practical skills; inadequate use of subject-specific terminology
• 18–20: correct answers to at least two of the four questions, but with substantial uncertainty in conceptual knowledge and/or practical application; limited autonomy in using the software and not always appropriate use of subject-specific terminology
• 21–23: correct answers to at least three of the four questions; generally adequate conceptual knowledge and appropriate use of subject-specific terminology, but several uncertainties and/or inaccuracies in practical application and independent use of the software
• 24–25: correct answers to all four questions; good command of conceptual knowledge and software features, appropriate use of subject-specific terminology and good operational autonomy, with only minor uncertainties or inaccuracies
• 26: complete and accurate answers to all four questions, with a confident command of conceptual knowledge and subject-specific terminology and full autonomy in carrying out the required practical tasks.

Level 1 Certification = 2 points
Level 2 Certification = 2 points
Obtaining either certification awards 2 bonus points; obtaining both awards a maximum of 4 bonus points.
The certification(s) may be obtained at any time, including after the course has ended, provided that they are obtained by the date of the chosen examination session.
The certification(s) may be obtained at any time (NOT necessarily during the first semester), but in any case, by the date of the chosen examination session.
The final grade will be the sum of the scores obtained:
Oral examination score (__/26) + any bonus points (__/4) = __/30
Teaching methods
Students must enrol in the Moodle course and refer to the materials available there when preparing for the examination. Materials will be made available on a weekly basis.
Trados Studio 2024 will be learned partly in class and partly through independent individual work. Compulsory assignments will be set during the course and must be completed in order to be admitted to the examination.
Further information
Trados Studio is designed to run on Windows computers. It can also be used on Mac computers, but a Windows virtual machine must be installed. Students who are unable to use a Windows computer with adequate specifications may use the computers available at the Treviso Campus.
Minimum system requirements for Trados Studio 2024
64-bit Intel or compatible processor, 8 GB RAM and a screen resolution of 1024 × 768.
Compatible processors include:

• AMD Ryzen (3, 5, 7, 9)
• Altri processori compatibili con l’architettura x64 e Windows 10/11 a 64 bit
For optimal performance, a 64-bit operating system, 16 GB RAM, an SSD and a recent-generation Intel or compatible CPU are recommended.
