The course is part of the curriculum and aims to enhance intercultural and literary-educational skills to complement linguistic skills.
The course also contributes to the overall objective of training future language teachers or, at the very least, offering students the opportunity to reflect more deeply on the literary or international studies they are undertaking in various courses, developing metacognitive skills.
Specifically, the objectives are:
Define a model of intercultural communication competence that is part of educational linguistics and is useful for enhancing foreign language learning skills. Understand how culture can influence communication and what it means to be competent in an intercultural exchange.
Acquire the theoretical foundations and key concepts related to intercultural communication.
Recognize the main barriers to intercultural communication within the following parameters: cultural values, verbal and nonverbal communication, and communicative events.
Understand the specifics of literature and literature teaching methods. Acquire skills for teaching literature according to the hermeneutic approach.
 
 
KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student will acquire basic knowledge and understanding regarding: underlying theoretical principles of intercultural communication; theories of language acquisition; culture in the literature and intercultural communication and education.

APPLICATION OF KNOWLEDGE AND UNDERSTANDING
The student will acquire the skills to: make connections between theory and its implications for practice; analyze and create teaching materials related to literature and intercultural communication; elaborate exercises and tasks for a given group with specific needs; analyze a situation for language teaching intervention.

AUTONOMY
Knowing how to organise a course matching the requirements of the context and to evaluate teaching materials.

COMMUNICATIVE ABILITY
Mastery of the LSP of literature and intercultural communication research.

LEARNING ABILITY
Note taking, participating in research and work groups, organising autonomous research, carrying out field research

The course is an introduction to intercultural communication and to didactics of literature.
The core is the analysis of cultural differences in international setting; the main topics are: communication and culture, multiculture and interculture, stereotypes, nonverbal communication, literary approaches.

WRITTEN exam lasting 1 hour covering the course content and the 4 texts in the bibliography. The test will consist of 4 open questions, which will have equal weight (25% each) in the evaluation.
The exam is on paper (a sheet of paper will be distributed by the teacher) and is open-book. Students may physically bring their bibliography books to the exam. The use of PCs, tablets, and cell phones is not permitted except in exceptional circumstances, to be discussed in advance with the teacher.

The lecturer has a duty to ensure that the rules regarding the authenticity and originality of exam tests and papers are respected. Therefore, if there is suspicion of irregular conduct, an additional assessment may be conducted, which could differ from the original exam description.

Final Grade and Description
18: Basic knowledge of the main theoretical aspects that characterize the teaching of intercultural communication and literature.
19-23: Fair mastery of the key concepts that characterize the teaching of intercultural communication and literature.
24-26: Good understanding of the topics covered, clear and structured knowledge of the subjects.
27-28: Solid understanding of the topics covered and ability to elaborate motivated judgments on the aspects characterizing the teaching of intercultural communication and literature.
29-30: Excellent knowledge of the theories and ability to decline them with originality. Excellent ability to connect theories with examples.
30 honors: Original and brilliant work, with a significant personal contribution to the theoretical reflection on the teaching of intercultural communication and literature.
