ILIOUPERSIS. THE SIEGE AND FALL OF THE CITY OF TROY
This course is one of the core subjects of the master's degree program:
LITERATURE, HISTORY, AND ARCHAEOLOGY - PHILOLOGY, LITERATURE, AND HISTORY OF ANCIENT TIMES.
In line with the curriculum, the course offers a specialized in-depth study of the theme of the BESIEGED CITY (ILIOUPERSIS) in Greek epic poetry and tragedy. It therefore explores the themes and forms of composition from the oral tradition of the Archaic Age to the development of classical theater and Hellenistic and imperial epic poetry. This broad diachronic exploration allows for a multifaceted comparison of cultural moments within what is by definition the poetic and civil theme of war and memory. It includes educational extensions to other genres and specific iconographic studies related to the theme of the fall of the city of Troy.
