SURVEY METHODS AND PRACTICES FOR BUSINESS AND SOCIETY

n today’s society, decision-making and the definition of strategies increasingly rely on data analysis. Although the availability of data is constantly growing, in many cases it is still necessary to rely on research to collect relevant data and information for decision-making processes.

The course aims to provide basic skills for collecting, analyzing, and interpreting data and information.

By the end of the course, students are expected to be able to critically design a survey, develop a questionnaire, and carry out a critical analysis of the results.

No previous subject is given as a prerequisite, although, it is highly recommended the attendancy at the course of Statistics. Minimum knowledge of the area of ​​interest and a strong motivation are essential to achieve the objectives of the course.

There are two methods of assessment for the course, at the student's choice.

The first method involves participating in and developing a group project, agreed upon with the instructor and also developed in class during the course. The exam will consist of presenting the results of the project, a summary of which (report) must be submitted 24 hours before the discussion. The exam will be passed if the project results are deemed sufficient, and the quality of the presentation will also affect the grade.

The second method involves an oral discussion on the recommended texts and the materials available on the platform. The student must demonstrate an understanding of the main concepts of the subject and the ability to argue the operational consequences of their application. Those interested may (optionally) present a critical analysis of a research study (article, report, or other) previously agreed upon with the instructor during the oral exam.

The lecturer has a duty to ensure that the rules regarding the authenticity and originality of exam tests and papers are respected. Therefore, if there is suspicion of irregular conduct, an additional assessment may be conducted, which could differ from the original exam description.

The final grade will be based on the student’s ability to discuss and critically engage with the course topics and/or the content presented in the project work.
