Patrizia Mello, after having obtained the classical high school diploma, graduated with a thesis on History and theory of design (1993, Univ. of Florence), obtained a research doctorate in Technology of Architecture (2000 Univ. of Florence) and she is licensed to practice as an architect (2002). She was a fixed-term researcher (SSD ICAR/18) from 2012 to 2015 at the DIDA (Univ. of Florence). At the University of Florence she was also a research fellow in 2012, 2007/8 and 2001/2.
She was an adjunct professor of History of Contemporary Art at the School of Architecture and Design of the University of Camerino (2001-2005) and for the degree in Industrial Design of the University of Florence (2003-2005). At the University of Camerino she was an adjunct professor of Theory and History of Design (2005/06). At the University of Florence she was an adjunct professor of Design Criticism (2011/12).
While she was a researcher, she held courses in the History of Contemporary Architecture (History III); she has collaborated with the Museo del Novecento in Florence and with the Luigi Pecci Center for Contemporary Art in Prato with seminars, lectures and coordination of issues relating to the history of contemporary architecture.
She has lectured for several masters (Syracuse University in Florence; La Sapienza; Mendrisio Academy of Architecture; University of Florence).
Her research fields concern history, theory and criticism of contemporary architecture and design, in relation to the events that have outlined its character from the end of the 19th century to the present day.
The results of the research activity have been the subject of the publication of books, numerous essays in collective texts and various articles (8 monographs, 67 articles and 28 essays in volume).
She has participated as a speaker at numerous international conferences; she has curated several study days and conducted research for various public and private entities. She is a corresponding member of the Euteleti Academy of San Miniato. She collaborates with the Giornale dell’Architettura and she is a member of the editorial board of the MD Journal. From 1995 to 2001 she directed the magazine IDEA.
In 2015 she obtained the national scientific qualification in the competition sector 08/E2 - Restoration and History of Architecture (group of associates). In 2020 she obtained a new national scientific qualification in the competition sector 08/E2 - Restoration and History of Architecture (group of associates).
