Curriculum vitae
Dr. Giulia Forghieri graduated in Biological Sciences from the University of Sassari and subsequently obtained her Master's degree in Science and Technology of Bio- and Nanomaterials from Ca' Foscari University of Venice. During her academic studies, she completed several international training and research experiences through the Erasmus+ Programme at the University of the West of Scotland (United Kingdom), Luleå University of Technology (Sweden), and Istanbul Arel University (Turkey), where she further developed her expertise in materials science, photocatalysis, and nanotechnology.
She earned her PhD in Chemistry at Ca' Foscari University of Venice in collaboration with the University of Trieste and the industrial partner Casale SA. Her doctoral research focused on the development of innovative bio-inspired systems for sustainable agriculture, encompassing the design of microbial biofertilizers and biostimulants, soil biochemistry and ecology, bioprocess engineering, and strategies to preserve soil fertility and health.
During her PhD, Dr. Forghieri was a Visiting Scholar at the University of California, Davis (USA), where she conducted research on plant biostimulants and strategies to enhance crop resilience to climate change. During this period, she collaborated with internationally recognized researchers in the fields of plant physiology and sustainable agriculture.
Since December 2024, she has been a Postdoctoral Fellow at the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems of Ca' Foscari University of Venice, where her research focuses on the development of sustainable technologies for green hydrogen production. In parallel, she has been involved in teaching activities as a Lecturer at the School of International Education of Ca' Foscari University of Venice.
Dr. Forghieri's research is inherently interdisciplinary, spanning industrial chemistry, materials science, catalysis, environmental biotechnology, soil ecology, and sustainable agriculture. Her main research interests include heterogeneous catalysis, photocatalytic CO₂ conversion, green hydrogen production, nanostructured functional materials, microbial biostimulants and biofertilizers, biological nitrogen fixation, soil–plant–microbiome interactions, circular economy, and the development of innovative technologies for climate change mitigation and ecosystem restoration.
Dr. Forghieri is the author and co-author of numerous scientific publications in international peer-reviewed journals. Her research has been supported by collaborations with national and international universities, research institutions, and industrial partners, contributing to the advancement of sustainable technologies at the interface of chemistry, materials science, and environmental engineering.
