Francesca Sofia Alexandratos is a fixed-term researcher at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, working on the project “Transactional Life and Vulnerability. A Bio-social Account of Vulnerability for the Critique of Intersectional Social Pathologies”, funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU – PNRR – MISSION 4 COMPONENT 2, INVESTMENT NO. 1.2 “Funding of projects submitted by young researchers.” The winning project is dedicated to outlining a concept of vulnerability based on a plural conception of nature through a pragmatist approach, for the critique social contexts.

Francesca Sofia Alexandratos received her PhD in Philosophy and the title of Doctor Europaeus from the University of Parma, with a dissertation entitled “Recognition and Life. A Study on Axel Honneth's Theory of Recognition and John Dewey's Naturalistic Humanism.” Since 2022, she has taught as an adjunct professor and tutor at Ca’ Foscari University and the University of Bologna. Since 2024, she has been a researcher at the Centre of Ethics, Politics and Society (CEPS) at the University of Minho (Braga), joining the research center’s board. She has conducted research and study stays in Finland (Tampere University) and Germany (Westfälische Wilhelms-Universität Münster).

Her research interests lie within the fields of critical theory, social philosophy, and philosophical anthropology, with a focus on theories of social recognition, the philosophy of vulnerability (Frankfurt School and American Pragmatism), and non-reductionist accounts of naturalism for the critique of social contexts. She is in the editorial boards of La società degli individui and the European Journal of Pragmatism and American Philosophy.

She is committed to the creation of spaces and events aimed at fostering dialogue and exchange between students, PhD candidates, researchers, and professors. She is a founding member of the philosophical associations Vita Activa, Map (Minorities and Philosophy) Parma, and Map Minho (CEPS). She is on the board of the philosophical associations La Ginestra and Fondazione per la critica sociale, and is in the committee of the mentoring program for women in philosophy of SWIP Italia.
