Domenico Santandrea is a Postdoctoral Researcher at the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems (DSMN).

In 2019, he earned his Bachelor's degree in Chemistry from the University of Calabria, presenting an experimental thesis on the synthesis of pyranopyridinone heterocycles via iodocyclization reactions.

In 2021, he obtained his Master's degree in Chemistry from the University of Calabria with an experimental thesis focused on the synthesis of benzothienopyranone heterocyclic derivatives obtained through Pd(II)-catalyzed carbonylation reactions.

In April 2026, he successfully defended his Ph.D. dissertation titled "Functionalization of Cellulosic Derivatives for Sustainable Packaging and Wastewater Purification" within the National Ph.D. Program in Design for Made in Italy at the University of Campania "Luigi Vanvitelli". During his doctoral studies, he carried out his experimental work at DSMN under the supervision of Prof. Valentina Beghetto, and completed a six-month research stay abroad at the University of Grenoble under the supervision of Prof. Julien Bras.

His research interests and scientific publications focus on multistep organic synthesis, chemical functionalization of cellulosic derivatives, their characterization via spectroscopic and thermal techniques, and the study of the functional properties of the resulting materials.

Throughout his academic career, he has served as a university tutor at the University of Calabria and Ca' Foscari University of Venice for courses in Organic Chemistry and Polymer Chemistry.
