Sabrina Ciolfi holds a PhD in Indological and Tibetological Studies from the University of Turin and a Degree in Political Science with a specialisation in Sociology from the University of Milan.

She was an Adjunct Professor of South Asian Cinema and Visual Culture at Ca' Foscari University of Venice during the a.y. 2023-2024. She has been collaborating with the University of Milan for over twenty years and has served as a Visiting Scholar at the CSLS—Centre for Socio-Legal Studies, Faculty of Law, University of Oxford.

She was the Director and Scientific Curator of the Bollywood Film Meeting Roma (Rome, 2012) and a jury member at the Pakistan International Film Festival—PIFF (Karachi, 2018).

Her research primarily focuses on South Asian Cinema and Gender Studies.

Since 2024, her research interests have also expanded to Himalayan and Tibetan Buddhist art, serving as a research assistant for two projects focused on the study of artwork restoration (P.I. Chiara Bellini): in Nepal, funded by the Dalla Piccola Foundation UK (2024), and in Ladakh, funded by the Rubin Museum USA (2026).

She is currently a Research Fellow for the project Beyond Exoticism: Tibetan and Himalayan Buddhist Art in Italian Museums — Between History, Collecting Practices, and New Museological Approaches, Across Memory and Decoloniality (P.I. Chiara Bellini), funded by the UBI—Unione Buddhista Italiana.
