Maria Grazia Marrocu is a PhD candidate in Language Sciences at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and in Educational Sciences at Universidad Rey Juan Carlos of Madrid, within the framework of an international joint doctoral cotutelle programme. Her research is situated in the field of sign language glottodidactics, with a particular focus on italian sign language (LIS) and spanish sign language (LSE), on processes of didactic standardisation, on the assessment of linguistic competences, and on the application of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR) to sign languages.

In December 2025, she presented a scientific contribution at the 5th International Conference “Educare+Educere”, held at University of Atlántico Medio in Gran Canaria (Spain), addressing issues related to the teaching and assessment of sign languages.

Since October 2025, she has been carrying out specialised tutoring activities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice for the undergraduate programme LIS 3, providing didactic and methodological support to students.

In September 2025, she took part in the organising committee of the VenetoNight 2025 event, coordinating a linguistic workshop entitled “LIS-tening: listen with your eyes!”, aimed at disseminating knowledge of LIS and raising awareness of the Deaf community.

Since February 2025, she has been actively involved as a member of the organising committee of the IncluBembo seminar series, dedicated to issues of disability, inclusion, and deafness, fostering dialogue between academic research and educational and social contexts.

Since January 2025, she has been working as an LIS and LISt (Tactile italian sign language) interpreter, affiliated in accordance with current regulations with the professional association ANILIS, operating in educational and training contexts.

From September 2024 to June 2025, she carried out a period of research mobility abroad at Rey Juan Carlos University of Madrid, collaborating with faculty members and students of the degree programme in Spanish Sign Language and Deaf Community. In this context, she conducted activities aimed at studying models of assessment and teaching of LSE.

In July 2023, she obtained a Master’s Degree in Language Sciences - Linguistics for Deafness and Language Disorders (LM-39) from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, with a thesis entitled “Idiomatic Expressions: an interlinguistic comparison between LSE and LIS”.

Since 2022, she has been continuously engaged in volunteer work supporting people with deafblindness and multiple sensory disabilities, collaborating with Lega del Filo d’Oro as a support volunteer and taking part in residential programmes and assistance activities, using LIS, LISt, and socio-haptic communication.

Since 2021, she has worked as a communication assistant in italian sign language (LIS), operating in educational and training settings to support Deaf individuals and people with complex communication needs.

In December 2020, she obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences (L-20) from the University of Sassari, with a thesis entitled “Accessibility of Services for Deaf People: an exploratory study on the accessibility of programmes in italian public television”.
