Tongxin FANG

Tongxin Fang (方桐昕)

PhD candidate in the Department of Modern Greek Philology at the University of Crete and co-supervised by the University of Venice, focusing on East–West cultural encounters. My doctoral research examines gender, culture, and Orientalist representations of Chinese women in the works of Nikos Kazantzakis and their modern inspirations.

I hold an Erasmus Mundus Joint Master’s Degree (CLE – European Literary Cultures), during which I studied at the University of Bologna and Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, completing a thesis on the cross-cultural dialogue surrounding Kazantzakis in China.

I received my B.A. in Greek Language and Cultures from Guangdong University of Foreign Studies, graduating top of my class with a GPA of 3.91/4.00. My undergraduate thesis explored comparative perspectives on death in ancient Chinese and Greek philosophy. I also studied as an exchange student at the National and Kapodistrian University of Athens with full sponsorship from the China Scholarship Council.

My academic interests include comparative literature, intercultural communication, gender studies, and Sino-Greek cultural relations. Through my research, I aim to contribute to a deeper understanding of the cultural and literary connections between China and Greece.
