Samuela SIMION

Samuela Simion holds a postdoctoral position ("incarico post-doc") at the Department of Humanities of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, where she is carrying out the research project «Forme e funzioni del falso nella costruzione del mito poliano» [Forms and Functions of the Fake in the Construction of the Polian Myth] (SSD FLMR-01/B – Romance Philology and Linguistics). She was a fixed-term researcher (RTDA) at the same University (2023-2026), within the framework of the PNRR CHANGES project – Cultural Heritage Active Innovation for Sustainable Society, and is qualified for the position of Associate Professor in academic recruitment sector 10/FLMR-01 (Medieval Latin and Romance Philologies and Literatures).

Her research focuses on medieval philology, and in particular on Marco Polo’s Devisement dou monde, with specific attention to its manuscript tradition, the reception of the work, and the methods and tools of digital scholarly editing. She is co-coordinator (with E. Burgio and M. Buzzoni) of the international project DEDM – Digital Edition of the Devisement dou monde, and co-edited (with E. Burgio) the digital critical edition of Giovanni Battista Ramusio’s Viaggi (Edizioni Ca’ Foscari, 2015, 2024). Among her main contributions are the identification of a new manuscript witness to the Devisement dou monde (ms. A.II.9, Jacobilli Library, Foligno), published in an edition prepared with M. Buzzoni, G. Fabbris and F. Soncin (Edizioni Ca’ Foscari, 2026); the critical edition of the Devisement dou monde in Venetian redaction V (Edizioni Ca’ Foscari, 2019); and studies devoted to the construction, transmission and transformation of the geographical and cultural imaginary between the Middle Ages and the Renaissance. She is also co-editor (with E. Burgio) of the volume Marco Polo. Storia e mito di un viaggio e di un libro (Carocci, 2024). She has also collaborated with the Centro Interuniversitario di Studi Veneti (CISVe) in Venice on the reorganisation, digital cataloguing and inventorying of the archival collections «Carte del Contemporaneo», co-editing (with M. Giachino, M. Rusi and S. Tamiozzo Goldmann) the Pasinetti-Balboni correspondence (Edizioni Ca’ Foscari, 2020).

She has taught at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and the University of Verona. She is co-editor of the series «Filologie medievali e moderne» (Edizioni Ca’ Foscari) and a member of the editorial boards of the journals «Quaderni Veneti» and «TranScript». She is also actively involved in public engagement initiatives, including lectures, cultural heritage walks exploring places associated with Marco Polo, and podcasts, aimed at promoting and disseminating Venice’s cultural heritage. She co-produced, with E. Burgio and A. Montefusco, the podcast Sulle tracce di Marco Polo for Radio Ca’ Foscari, featuring the voices of Alessio Boni and Arianna Moro, and contributed to the social media series Le vie di Marco Polo, promoted by the Municipality of Venice.
