Prof. Paolo UGO

Born in Venice in 1956.

1980: Doctor degree (with honors) in Industrial Chemistry, University of Venice.

1981: Military Service: Chemical Analyst at the Bromatology Lab of the Military Command in Cagliari.

1982-1983: Researcher,  Zambon Farmaceutici SpA of Vicenza.

1983-1992: University Researcher (Assistant Professor), Ca’ Foscari;

1992-2006: Associate Professor, Ca’ Foscari;

2006-2019: Full Professor, Cà Foscari; 

1987-1988: Visiting Associate at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, USA, with Prof. Fred C. Anson;

1996-2000: Coordinator of NATO Collaborative Research Grant  with Colorado State University, Fort Collins, USA. in collaboration with Prof. Charles R. Martin.

2007-2017: Short term Visiting Professor at the Universities of Bordeaux (France) and Southampton (UK).

2009-2011: Director of the Graduate School in Science and Technology, Ca’ Foscari;

2003-2012: Coordinator of the Graduate courses in Chemical Sciences, Cà Foscari.

2015-2019: Coordinator at Ca' Foscari of the Research Institute for Green and Blue Growth, former Green Challenges.

2018-2019: Quality Insurance Coordinator for the Department of Molecular Sciences and Nanosystems. 

2019-: Retired; continuing his colloboration with Ca' Foscari as honorary "Senior Reseracher".

Previous member of the editorial board of the scientific journals "Sensors"; "Journal of  Nanomedicine and Nanotechnology”; "Chemosensors"; "Analytica".

Guest Editor of special issues of international scientific journals such as Electrochimica Acta, Current Opinions in Electrochemistry, Sensors, Chemosensors.

Scientific activity: Molecular electrochemistry; Ion-exchange voltammetry; Polymer functionalized electrochemical sensors, Environmental electroanalysis; Nanoelectrodes and nanoelectrochemistry; Electrochemical sensors and biosensors; Electrochemistry and sensors for cultural heritage.

He has published over 160 scientific articles in international scientific journals (peer-reviewed).

Author with P. Marafini and  M. Meneghello of the graduate students textbook "Bioanalytical Chemistry - from Biomolecular Recognition to Nanobiosensing",  publisher: De Gruyter Brill (Berlin), 1st edition 2021, 2nd expanded edition 2025.

He is included in the list of the Top Italian Scientists in Chemistry of the VIA Academy, based on Google Scholar database.
