Ivan Matijašić (Pula, Croatia, 1987): Assistant Professor in Greek History. I obtained a BA degree (2008) and an MA degree (2011) in Classics and Ancient History at Ca' Foscari University of Venice. In 2015 I was awarded a PhD at the Scuola Normale Superiore in Pisa. As an MA and later a PhD student, I spent several months in various German universities (Freiburg im Breisgau, Münster, FU Berlin) with DAAD and Erasmus programme scholarships. I was Research Fellow in Greek and Roman History at Ca’ Foscari (2015–2016), Gerda Henkel Stiftung Postdoc in Münster (2016–2017), Visiting Fellow at the Free University of Berlin (2017), Research Excellence Academy Postdoctoral Fellow at the University of Newcastle (2017–2020), Research Fellow at the University of Siena as part of the Seal of Excellence @UNISI grant (2021–June 2022), Marie Skłodowska-Curie COFUND Global@Venice Fellow at Ca’ Foscari (July–December 2022), Assistant Professor (non tenure track) at Ca’ Foscari (2022–2025), Tenure-Track Assistant Professor at the University of Messina (2025–2026). In November 2022 I was Lewis-Gibson Visiting Fellow at the Cambridge Centre for Greek Studies (University of Cambridge) and I spent the spring term 2022-2023 in Washington DC as a Fellow at the Center for Hellenic Studies (Harvard University). In 2026, I obtained the qualification to serve as a Full Professor in the academic field 10/D1, 'Ancient History'.
