Principal subjects | PhD thesis title: “Rural Health Care in Contemporary P.R.China. Private Interests and Social Needs in the Hu-Wen Era”. The research work carried out by the during the PhD focused on the analysis of the processes of interaction between State and society pertinent to the health care sector in contemporary China. Research work focused in particular on the analysis of private interest groups, and their influence on both policy decision making process and implementation at local level of health policies. In the final chapter, a description is provided of possible avenues at disposal of private interests (in particular those of the pharmaceutical and biomedical industries) to become institutionalised in the Chinese political system. Results introduced in the thesis draw largely from evidence collected through fieldwork, conducted between 2009 and 2011.
