Incroci in musica launches in Venice sounds, instruments and inspirations from across the world

Jan Garbarek

The crossroads of culture in Venice are expanding: Incroci in Musica / Crossroads in Music is the new music series organised by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice, Fondazione di Venezia and Fondazione Università Ca’ Foscari, in collaboration with Veneto Jazz. It opens on 4 October with a special concert by the Jan Garbarek Group featuring Trilok Gurtuat Teatro Goldoni.

Through Incroci in Musica, audiences will encounter musical traditions from far-flung parts of the world, expressions of an extraordinary wealth of diverse sensibilities and civilisations. It is a journey across space and, in some ways, through time, staged in prestigious cultural venues including Teatro Goldoni, La Fenice, and Auditorium Santa Margherita-Emanuele Severino in Venice, as well as M9 – Museo del ’900 in Mestre.

From October 2025 to February 2026, seven concerts will guide Venetian audiences towards the next edition of Incroci di Civiltà – International Festival of Literature, directed by Ca’ Foscari professor Flavio Gregori, creating an ideal bridge between music and words. Each concert will offer opportunities to meet and engage with the artists.
With Incroci in Musica, Ca’ Foscari enhances its dedication to Public Engagement, promoting internationalisation and enriching exchange between artistic languages and their audiences.

Incroci in Musica represents the natural counterpart to Incroci di Civiltà, broadening its scope to reach an ever wider and more diverse audience. Both initiatives aim to promote dialogue between cultures and peoples, often very different from one another, this time through the engaging and universal language of music. It is not an appendix, but a natural continuation of a cultural, social, and civic commitment whose core lies in affirming the inalienable nature of human rights.

The Director of Incroci in Musica is Ca’ Foscari professor, musicologist, and musician Giovanni De Zorzi. He is supported by a qualified inter-institutional working group composed of musicians and sector specialists, including Giuseppe Mormile and Alvise Seggi.

The debut concert will take place on 4 October at 8 pm at Teatro Goldoni with a special event: the Jan Garbarek Group featuring Trilok Gurtu. The Norwegian saxophonist, one of the most distinctive and original voices in European jazz, will headline this unmissable event. For over fifty years, his music has captivated and inspired audiences through a unique blend of spirituality and improvisation, expressed in a constantly evolving language. Sharing the stage with him will be Indian percussionist Trilok Gurtu, a pioneer of world music, in a magical fusion of Nordic atmospheres and ethnic resonances. For further information and to buy tickets, visit the dedicated webpage.
