Curriculum vitae

Sara Borrello is a Postdoctoral Research Fellow in Roman History at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, and a Ph.D. in Classics and Ancient History at Newcastle University.

Born in Monza on 22 May 1989, in 2011 she graduated in Cultural Heritage Sciences (History pathway - BA equivalent) at Catholic University of Milan, with a dissertation in Roman History entitled "Servilia Caepionis tra Cesare e Bruto" (Degree grade: 110/110). Then, in 2014 she obtained a Master degree in Ancient Civilisations: Literature, History and Archaeology (Philology, Literature and History of Antiquity – MA equivalent) at Ca' Foscari University of Venice with a dissertation entitled "Giulio Cesare e l’exemplum di Mario. Analisi di un’imitatio per verba, imagines, scripta e acta" (Degree grade: 110/110 cum laude). In 2022 she was awarded a Ph.D. in Classics and Ancient History at Newcastle University, with a thesis entitled "The Republic of Children: Pueri and Puellae in Roman Politics and Warfare (3rd - 1st Centuries BCE)". In 2023 she obtained the Italian academic recognition of her British doctoral degree in Classics and Ancient History at Ca' Foscari University of Venice, which equated that qualification with the inter-university (University of Venice, Udine and Trieste) Ph.D. in Ancient Heritage Studies.

Her research interests focus on the political history of the late Roman Republic, the Roman family (particularly the involvement of women and underage boys and girls in the power dynamics of the Republican period), and the processes of memory codification. Her research adopts an interdisciplinary approach, aiming at analysing historiographic, epigraphic, iconographic, and numismatic sources and at the dialogue between the information coming from each of them, without neglecting the methodologies and critical aspects proper of each discipline.

She has authored academic contributions and has organised conferences and workshops. She has also presented conference papers, seminar papers, and has engaged in outreach activities. She has been a member of the Family History Research Group at Newcastle University. She is a member of Rodopis - Experience Ancient History.
