Curriculum vitae
After a brief experience in the corporate sector, Giacomo Zavatta was awarded a PhD in Philosophy and Educational Sciences by Ca’ Foscari University of Venice in 2025. During his PhD, he worked closely with the Institute for Educational Technologies in Genoa (CNR-ITD) and University College Dublin (UCD).
Since 2023, he has been a lecturer in Didactics and Educational Research at the Theological Institute of Venice, affiliated with the Faculty of Theology of the Pontifical Antonianum University.
Since 2024, he has been collaborating with the Salesian International Higher Institute for Educational Research (ISRE) on the research project ‘Defining a model of strategic competences (key skills) for trainers in the context of vocational education and training (VET), which won a competitive European public call promoted by the National Institute for the Analysis of Public Policies (INAPP).
Between March to November 2025, he taught at several primary schools in the municipality of Venice.
On 21 October 2025, he was awarded a research contract for scientific-disciplinary group 11/PAED-02 (Educational Research, Special Education and Experimental Pedagogy), scientific-disciplinary sector PAED-02/B (Experimental Pedagogy), under the supervision of Prof. Massimiliano Costa, at the Department of Philosophy and Cultural Heritage of Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
He is currently a lecturer in Evaluation and Qualitative Research at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
His research focuses on theoretical, foundational, epistemological, and methodological studies exploring the following areas: the professional identity of secondary school teachers; school assessment and docimology; the assessment and development of the competences of secondary school teachers and VET trainers; the capability approach in education; and educational research methodologies and tools.
Since 2022, he has participated in various national and international academic conferences. He is a member of the editorial board of the Italian Journal of Educational Technology and serves on the scientific committee for the Società e Formazione series published by Ledizioni.
