Luigi Salvati studied at the University of Naples - "Federico II" and Salerno. He earned his Ph.D. at the University of Roma Tre, Department of Economics, with a thesis on the relationship between investments and profitability in Kaleckian models of accumulation. During his Ph.D., he was a Visiting Ph.D. Student at the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. He has taught courses in Political Economy, Microeconomics, and International Economics.

His main research interests include territorial development disparities, the relationship between institutions and labor markets, and post-Keynesian theories.

He has participated in various research projects and groups, including the ASTRIL project for the publication of the 2022 annual report and the Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence "Labour, Welfare and Social Rights in Europe" at the University of Roma Tre. Currently, he is involved in the GRINS project of the National Recovery and Resilience Plan (PNRR).

He has been part of the organizing or scientific committees of several conferences and summer schools.

He is a member of the editorial board of the journal Review of Political Economy.
