Pia Masiero is full professor of North-American literature at the University of Venice, Ca’ Foscari. During her PhD, she studied at the University of California, Irvine.
Her first works concern African-American literature and William Faulkner’s short fiction. Her research interests span Nathaniel Hawthorne and the American Renaissance, Faulkner and contemporary US and Canadian literature (Paul Auster, Philip Roth, Alice Munro, Michael Ondaatje and David Foster Wallace). Lately she has worked on the experience of reading and the mechanisms that trigger empathy using both second generation post-classical narratology and cognitive sciences.
She is author of Philip Roth and the Zuckerman Books, 2011 and Names across The Color Line: William Faulkner’s Short Fiction 1932-1941.
