Giovanni Bulian has an academic background in both anthropology and humanities. He has conducted extensive fieldwork in various regions of Japan. His research primarily revolves around studying the impacts and adaptations to extreme weather and seasonal climate change in coastal areas. His specialization lies in maritime resource management strategies, examining the social perception of climate change within small-scale farming and fishing economies, and the history of traditional forecasting knowledge.
Additionally, Giovanni Bulian's research extends to other subjects, including the exploration of human agency and its relationship to climate change, anthropological studies of space, the examination of fishing material culture, social issues within food production and consumption systems, as well as the conceptual and practical contributions of rural anthropology.
His research interests encompass a wide range of areas, including environmental anthropology, the anthropology of religion, and the history of anthropology.
