Pierantonio Zanotti is Associate Professor of Japanese Language and Literature in the Department of Asian and North African Studies at Ca' Foscari University.
He earned his laurea in "Oriental Languages and Civilization" from Ca' Foscari University in 2003 (summa cum laude). After a period of study at the University of Tokyo (2004-2006), he received his Ph.D. in "Oriental Studies" from Ca' Foscari University in 2009, with a thesis on the poet Yamamura Bochō (1884-1924).
At Ca' Foscari, he has been teaching elementary Japanese language and modern and pre-modern Japanese literature since 2009.
He has spent periods of study and research in Japan and the USA. He has received fellowships and grants from the Japan Foundation (2012) and the Getty Foundation, Los Angeles (2015). He has taught at the Autonomous University of Barcelona (2014) under the Erasmus Program.

His field of research is modern Japanese literature (1868-1945). He focuses on poetry, modernism, and the reception accorded to European avant-gardes, especially Italian Futurism. He has published extensively on the history of Futurism in Japan, and on authors such as Yamamura Bochō, Tayama Katai, Hirato Renkichi, Kanbara Tai, and F. T. Marinetti.
He is a contributing editor of the International Yearbook of Futurism Studies (De Gruyter).

His faculty duties in the Department of Asian and North African Studies include: coordinator of teaching activities (since 2022), member of the "Collegio di Dottorato" in Asian and African Studies (since 2021), coordinator of Quality Assurance (2017-2022), area coordinator for student abroad mobility (2017-2019), member of the Research Committee (2013-2015, 2018), and area contact for the East Asia library (2014-2019).
