Stefano Floris is an archaeologist specializing in Phoenician and Punic archaeology. Since 2021, he has co-directed the ongoing ‘Tophet of Bithia’ Archaeological Project (Chia, Domus de Maria – South Sardinia) together with Alessandra Gilibert.

After holding a Research Fellowship at the Department of Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (2020–2021), he was an Alexander von Humboldt Postdoctoral Research Fellow at the Institute of Biblical Archaeology at the University of Tübingen (2022–2024) and a Margo Tytus Visiting Scholar at the Department of Classics at the University of Cincinnati (Fall 2024).

He received his academic training at the University of Bologna (B.A. in Classics; M.A. in Archaeology and Cultures of the Ancient World) and earned his Ph.D. in Ancient World Studies from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. He holds the Italian National Academic Qualification (Abilitazione Scientifica Nazionale) as Associate Professor in both Archaeology and Ancient Near Eastern and African Cultures.

His research explores material religion, burial customs, ritual practices, and cross-cultural interactions in the western Mediterranean, with a particular focus on Sardinia and the so-called tophet sanctuaries. He combines archaeological fieldwork with the reassessment of legacy data, digital methodologies, and scientific analyses. He is the author of several peer-reviewed publications, including the monograph Il tofet di Tharros (Collezione di Studi Fenici 52, CNR Edizioni, 2022) and multiple journal articles (see ORCiD; Academia.edu).
