ASHLEY RIGGS holds a PhD in Translation Studies from the University of Geneva’s Faculty of Translation and Interpreting. Her postdoctoral project, funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation and conducted at UCL (London) and the University of Granada (Spain), culminated in the book Stylistic Deceptions in Online News: Journalistic style and the translation of culture. As the title suggests, Ashley’s research interests include journalistic style and cultural (mis)representations in news across languages and cultures, but also contemporary rewritings of fairy tales and their translations, and translation criticism. At Ca’ Foscari, she currently teaches English from various perspectives and for various purposes at both the BA and MA levels.

Ashley was born in Hawaii, grew up in California and did a double undergraduate degree (French Studies and Psychology) at Smith College in Massachusetts. Before joining the Ca’ Foscari faculty, she lived in Switzerland for 22 years. Her working languages are English, French and Spanish.
