Traineeship and substitute activities
In the field of the aforementioned “Other formative activities”, the study plan assigns 6 Formal University Credits (ECTS) to educational training and orientation.
The ECTS relative to educational training and orientation can be acquired through different types of activities, up until students reach the necessary quota of 6 ECTS. The range of activities through which students may choose are listed below. Only the activities that are mentioned can be taken into consideration by the Didactic College for accrediting ECTS provided by the educational training and orientation.
Recognition in credits of the placement/internship activities and of the substituted activities are based on the request from the student, according to the principle that 25 documented hours (understood as the time passed both whilst working at this institute developing the activity and from an eventual time quota managed autonomously to produce written work) corresponds to 1 ECTS.
Traineeships
Current agreements
Ca’ Foscari has activated numerous agreements with public and private firms available to host formative placements for their students. They can be carried out within a maximum of 150 hours, equivalent to 6 ECTS.
To activate the procedure for starting a placement students must first contact Ca’ Foscari Internship Office and then agree a training project with the members of the Teaching Committee for placements (listed in the Scholars page on the Presentation menu). The training project must then be signed in three copies of the corresponding modules (leaving with them a fourth copy, even if it is not provided in the instructions of the Internship Office). Once you have concluded the placement, the same representative must sign the conclusive report that must then be delivered to the Internship Office to obtain the ECTS.
If, after having consulted the pre-existing list of the firms that have already activated an agreement with Ca’ Foscari to host formative placements, the student does not find the name of a company in which they want to carry out their placement, the student can propose an agreement with another firm following the instructions included in the “Agreement” section on the Activate an internship web page.

Only the activities mentioned in this page are considered valid by the Didactic College for the accreditation of ECTS expected for fulfilling “educational training and orientation”. Students cannot be accredited activities only recognised by the Didactic College from other degree programmes. In case of doubt, the matter is addressed by the members of the Didactic College representing the placements (listed on the Scholars page on the Presentation menu).
The number of ECTS accredited to each activity carried out by the placement are established by the Didactic College and are previously announced to students in the relative documentation for each activity, or can be requested by the scholar representing the same activity.
Upon finishing the activity, students must have the form for the understanding of the activities carried out by the placement filled out by the representative scholar for the single activity carried out and then must hand it in to the Humanities Campus upon reaching the number of ECTS expected from the study plan together with the rest of the documentation.

As part of the "Greece Express in Venice: A Journey through Greek and Minoan Modernities" public engagement project—promoted by the Department of Humanities in collaboration with the Centre for Digital and Public Humanities—a lecture series has been organized at the Fortuny Museum in Venice.
This series focuses on the impact of Greek and Minoan art on European society during the 19th and 20th centuries, examining how these styles were emulated and reinterpreted across various forms of modern and contemporary art, including sculpture, painting, jewelry, and textile design. The sessions will explore the work of Mariano Fortuny—specifically his renowned Delphos gowns and Knossos shawls—while also broadening the scope to include antiquarian collecting, the study of Parthenon casts, Minoan-inspired jewelry, and the influence of Orientalist painting.
Activity Schedule: six lectures and an exhibition organized from October 20, 2026, to January 19, 2027.

- total attendance: 16 hours
- total hours (attendance + individual work): 25 hours.
Assessment method: students are required to prepare a report containing a summary of each lecture and a description of at least three Greek- or Minoan-inspired products on display at the Fortuny Museum exhibition that particularly appealed to or fascinated them.

Participation requirements: there are no prerequisites for participating in the activities, but it is advisable to have a computer with an internet connection available to complete the practical exercises.
Activity description: this workshop on automatic handwritten text recognition techniques is primarily aimed at PhD students in Ancient Studies and students of the Master’s degree program in Digital and Public Humanities at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
The one-day event aims to provide the theoretical and practical foundations for using automatic text recognition technologies by examining a specific case study: epigraphic manuscripts—textual documents with a strong graphic component that lie at the intersection of archaeological, historical, and philological interests.
The seminar begins with brief theoretical sessions designed to situate the event within the activities of the DSU and VeDPH, highlighting collaborations with the CLARIN-IT and H2IOSC infrastructures to showcase the services they offer to scholars and researchers in the humanities.
This will be followed by a short theoretical presentation on the specific characteristics of the subject matter and the current state of research in the field.
The core of the workshop consists of four practical sessions focused on understanding and effectively using automatic text recognition technologies; conducted in English with a modular, progressive structure, these sessions will feature guided practical exercises.
By the end of the workshop, participants will be able to independently use automatic text recognition applications and apply them critically to the analysis of their own textual documents.
Participants may attend one or more workshop modules. Certificates of participation specifying the completed modules will be issued. The event will be recorded and will serve as the basis for developing related educational materials on the CLARIN-IT and H2IOSC platforms.

Activities promoted by Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities (VeDPH)
Participation requirements:

Activity description: the seminars and events are organised by the VeDPH – Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities and focus on the core subject areas of the Master’s programme.
They offer Master’s students a valuable opportunity to meet leading scholars from around the world in person and deepen their understanding of the topics covered in their taught modules.
Students will assist with organising each activity and contribute to communication and dissemination strategies.

The students will assist with organising the events, promoting them on social media, and editing video recordings of each seminar for the VeDPH YouTube channel.
The seminars take place at Ca’ Foscari University (VeDPH Lab, Palazzo Malcanton Marcorà) and are held in English. Each seminar lasts approximately two hours.
The students are required to attend all seminars in full and is encouraged to ask the speakers questions.
The whole activity is worth 6 credit.

Activity description: the VeDPH (Venice Centre for Digital and Public Humanities) at the Department of Humanities of Ca’ Foscari offers to the students of the Master programme in Digital and Public Humanities an Activity substituting for the internship of up to 150 hours (6 CFU) to collaborate on the following tasks:
Support of projects and activities lead by members and researchers at the VeDPH.
Support of VeDPH communication and dissemination activities, incl. content preparation for social media channels (X, Instagram, Youtube etc.).
Support and organisation of other occasional tasks related to VeDPH activities.
All activities will be agreed upon with the tutor, the VeDPH research facilitator, and the academic staff responsible for each project, taking into account the total hours available and the internship period.
The number of credits awarded (up to a maximum of 6) may vary between students, depending on the amount of work each student completes.
VeDPH official business language is English.
The internship is open to a maximum of 2 students.

Substitute exams (only for part-time students)
Part-time students can request the Didactic College to substitute the placement with an exam (to carry out only after having agreed it with their own College) without having to modify their study plan. Forms are available from the members of the Didactic College representatives for placements (listed on the Scholars page on the Presentation menu).
