Curriculum vitae
Stefania M. Maci has been Full Professor of English Language, Translation and Linguistics since 2019 and is currently affiliated with the Department of Linguistics and Comparative Cultural Studies at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. She is also a Fulbright Distinguished Chair (University of Pittsburgh, USA).
She holds a PhD in Applied Linguistics from Lancaster University and has developed an international research profile in English language studies, corpus linguistics and discourse analysis. Her research focuses on tourism and digital communication, medical and scientific discourse, academic and professional communication, legal language, translation and multimodal communication. More recently, her work has addressed the relationship between artificial intelligence, discourse and changing forms of communication.
She has participated in European, national (PRIN), and international research projects, including LSP-TEOC.Pro, TRAILS, and Corpus Sense, and is a member of the international research groups GENTEXT and CorpLing at the University of Valencia.
She is the author, co-author and editor of numerous books, chapters and journal articles published by international presses and journals. Her most recent publications include Translating Tourism (Routledge, 2025), The Routledge Handbook of Discourse and Disinformation (2023), The Routledge Handbook of Scientific Communication (2022) and Corpus Linguistics and Translation Tools for Digital Humanities (2022).
She served as Pro-Vice-Chancellor for Education at the University of Bergamo (2015-2021), contributing to the development of institutional policies for teaching quality and innovation, and as a Member of the Quality Assurance Board at the University of Bergamo (2015-2021) and Member of the Quality Assurance Group for the Degree Program in Medicine and Surgery at Bicocca University (2015-2025). She has also held significant responsibilities within Italy’s national higher education and research evaluation system. She has served as a member of Committees of Evaluation Experts (CEV) for the periodic accreditation of universities and as coordinator of the Evaluation Expert Group (GEV) for the area of foreign languages and literatures and comparative studies within the Italian Research Quality Evaluation (VQR). She has also worked as an evaluator and expert for ANVUR and for international research institutions.
