Curriculum vitae
Linda Armano’s research focuses on extractive anthropology, specifically mining industrialisation, value chains, corporate ethics, Indigenous studies within the Canadian context, and Alpine anthropology. She addresses these themes using ethnographic methods and multi-level analysis. She holds a joint PhD from Université Lumière Lyon 2 (in Anthropology and Sociology) and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice (in European Social History from the Middle Ages to the Contemporary Era), where she conducted research on mining culture in the Alps. In 2018, she was awarded a Marie Skłodowska-Curie Fellowship (https://pric.unive.it/projects/diaethic/home), through which she developed interdisciplinary research at the intersection of mining anthropology and consumption analysis. In this context, she investigated how various actors and stakeholders – from diverse sociocultural, political, and economic backgrounds (such as Indigenous communities, multinational mining staff, jewellers, and consumers)—interpret the concept of “ethics” in relation to certifications for diamonds mined in Canada’s Northwest Territories. She is currently collaborating on a project involving the active engagement of Canadian Indigenous communities in the tourism sector in British Columbia. In 2025, she co-founded the Secondary Extraction Association, which aims to rethink extractive practices and epistemologies through traditional knowledge and interdisciplinary perspectives. In 2026, the government of British Columbia recognised the association’s new configuration as the Re-Con-Figure Foundation, dedicated to supporting research and social entrepreneurship projects developed in collaboration with local communities.
