Curriculum vitae

Alexandra Deem is a Marie-Sklodowska Curie postdoctoral fellow affiliated as an external expert with the AIMODELS ERC project at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice. Bringing together theory and methods from digital anthropology, cultural studies, and feminist media studies, her research focuses on everyday digital media practices, gendered labor, and the cultural politics of authenticity in the creator economy. For her current project AI INFLUENCE, she is conducting a digital ethnographic study of AI influencer creators that shows how these emerging platform entrepreneurs are contributing to realizing a platform aesthetic and form of entrepreneurial know-how she terms “post-authenticity.” Referring to how realness is increasingly defined in terms of affective resonance and vibe, post-authenticity also serves as an aspirational dispositif inciting people to engage in forms of entrepreneurial creativity that incorporate AI technologies and their anthropomorphic logics.

Alexandra completed her PhD in 2024 in the Graduate School of North American Studies at the Freie Universität Berlin with a dissertation on the everyday sociotechnical practices and digital labor of tradwife influencers. The dissertation won both the Ernst Reuter and Ernst Fraenkel prizes at FU Berlin and was adapted into a monograph published in 2026 with Routledge titled, The Tradwife Revolution: An Ethnography of Trad Futurism on Social Media.
