Curriculum vitae
Luca Rigobianco (1982) obtained a BA in Humanities from Ca’ Foscari University of Venice and an MA in Linguistics from the University of Padua. In 2011, he was awarded a PhD in Linguistic, Philological and Literary Sciences – Linguistics by the University of Padua. Between 2012 and 2019, he held research fellowships for two years at the University of Padua and for four years at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice; in 2015, he also carried out research as a collaborator at the University of Florence. From the 2014/15 to the 2019/20 academic year, he taught Historical Linguistics as an adjunct lecturer at the University of Padua. After serving as a fixed-term researcher at Ca’ Foscari University of Venice from 2020 to 2026, he was appointed Associate Professor of Historical and General Linguistics at the same university in 2026. In 2024, he obtained the Italian National Scientific Qualification for the position of Full Professor.
His main areas of research are historical linguistics, Indo-European linguistics and digital epigraphy, with particular attention to the fragmentarily attested languages of ancient Italy. He has worked on a wide range of topics, including language contact, morphology and etymology, and on a variety of languages and linguistic varieties, including Etruscan, Latin, Faliscan, the Sabellic languages, Venetic, Celtiberian, Greek and the Romance varieties. His research also adopts a perspective attentive to textual, writing-related and cultural aspects.
He is the author of two monographs and of articles published in Italian and international journals, most of which are classified as Class A. He has participated in national and international conferences, including as an invited speaker. He has contributed in various capacities to research projects in Italy, including FIRB 2008 and PRIN 2009, 2010–11 and 2017, and abroad, including ISCH COST, Proyecto de Excelencia 2017 and Proyectos de I+D+i 2020.
He is a member of the scientific board of the journal Lingvarum varietas and of the academic book series Ariodante – Linguistica ed epigrafia dell’Italia antica (University of Perugia) and Antropologia culturale, etnologia, etnolinguistica (Aracne Editrice).
In 2014, he was co-opted as a member of the Società Italiana di Glottologia, and in 2021 he was elected a corresponding member of the Istituto di Studi Etruschi e Italici.
In 2017, he was awarded the H2020-MSCA-IF-2016 Seal of Excellence by the European Commission.
