Alessandro FARSETTI

He obtained a bachelor's degree in Languages and Intercultural Communication from the University of Siena in 2007 and a master's degree in Sectoral and Publishing Translation from the University of Bologna in 2009.

From 2010 to 2014, he attended PhD courses in Languages, Cultures, and Society at Ca' Foscari, where he has been working as an associate professor of Russian Literature since 1 September 2024. Previously, he held the position of researcher at the same university (junior researcher: 2018-2021; senior researcher: 2021-2024). He also taught Russian-Italian Translation and Russian Language and Literature at the Institute of Linguistic Mediation in Perugia and a module on Russian Literature at the University of Florence.

His fields of research include the poetics of the early 20th-century artistic avant-garde in Russia, popular culture in the USSR, travel literature, Russian versification, and narratology. The results of his studies have appeared in Italian and international academic journals. He was part of a research group coordinated by Luba Jurgenson (Paris IV - Sorbonne) and Claudia Pieralli (University of Florence) on the study of the reception of Soviet repression in Italian and French culture during the 20th century. He was a member of the Venetian unit of PRIN 2022 "Eastern Europe" between Russia and the West: Contested Spaces, Identity Building, and Memory Policies in Historical Perspective (PI: Giovanna Cigliano, University of Naples Federico II), for which he studied Ukrainian and Russian history school textbooks from a culturological and narratological perspective.

He has published a monograph on the poetry of one minor figure of Russian avant-garde (A Parisian Voice in Russian Futurism: the Poetry of Ivan Aksenov, Firenze University Press, 2017) and he has also edited the critical edition of Aksenov's poetry (Odopisets Eifelevoi bashni, Izdatel'stvo EUSPb, 2022) and the annotated edition of the essay Picasso and Environs (Pikasso i okrestnosti, Izdatel'stvo EUSPb, 2023), which he also translated into Italian (Stilo Editrice, 2020). Other volumes edited by him are the Italian edition of Andrei Platonov's Bread and Reading (Linea edizioni, 2021; revised and expanded edition in 2023) and (together with Mikhail Talalay and Dar’ia Moskovskaia) the commented Russian publication of Nikolai Antsiferov’s Italian memoirs (Staraia Basmannaia, 2016). A special mention is needed for the translation from English into Italian of The Gadfly (1897) by E. L. Voynich, a novel set in Italy that was very popular in Soviet Russia (Castelvecchi, Roma, 2013).

He is member of the Italian Association of Slavists.
