In 1985/86, she was an exchange graduate student at the University of California, Berkeley nel 1985/6. In the Sommersemester 1987 is Geprufte Hilfskraft presso la cattedra di Romanistica (prof. Schwarze), University of Konstanz. Between 1987 and 1992, I attended the Phd program, graduating with a dissertation titled "La sintassi dei sintagmi nominali quantificati." Uno studio comparativo. During the Phd program, she attends postgraduate courses at the University of Washington, Seattle (January 1989), the University of Geneva (October-December 1989), MIT, and Harvard (October-November 1990). Post-doc researcher at Ca' Foscari in 1993/94 e 1995/96.

English teacher with tenure in public high schools from October 1992 to October 2000. In November 2000, is hired at Ca Foscari, first as a researcher, then as an associate professor (2005 - 2017), then as a full professor in general linguistics. She served as the coordinator of BA and MA programs in Linguistics from 2005 to 09 and from 2012 to 14. In 2014-16, she served as departmental coordinator of teaching programs; in 2017 and in 2025 til present, she is the departmental quality assurance coordinator.

She was a member elected of the university committee for equal opportunities (CPO) in 2007-12, and president of it in 2009-12; she served as president of the unique guarantee committee (CUG) nominated by the rector in 2012-14. She is currently a nominated member of the CUG, since 2024 she has been a nominated member of CUG. 

She is co-director of Annali di Ca' Foscari Serie Occidentale, founder and director of the series LiVVaL - Linguaggio e Variazione / Variation in Langue (ECF digital editions), and member of the board of Lingua and of University of Bucharest Working Papers in Linguistics. She has been serving as a reviewer of major linguistic journals and conferences, for example, the Chicago Linguistic Society, the Northeast Linguistic Society, the West Coast Linguistic Society, the Incontro di grammatica generativa, and GLOW. Has served as reviewer of projects submitted to the Research Council of Norway, the Tromso Research Foundation (Norway), the National Science Foundation (USA), Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio Trento e Rovereto, the Italian VQR, PRIN, FIRB, and Reprise. She was a disciplinary expert in 2 visits for ANVUR 1 (the first turn of university quality assurance in Italy) in 2015-16.

She was local PI of COVCELL (Cohort Oriented Virtual Campus for Effective language learning (2005-2007); member of FIRB La ricerca fondamentale sul linguaggio al servizio della lingua italiana: documentazione, acquisizione monolingue, bilingue e L2 e ideazione di prodotti multimediali diretto dalla prof. A. Belletti (U. Siena) and of many nationally relevant projects. In the framework of the Department of Excellence  scheme (2017-22), she is the coordinator of VariOpInTa, currently in progress.

She was a research fellow at the University of Cambridge in 2011 with the project Structural Protocols for linguistic awareness enhancing inclusive language identity, a research fellow at Paris VII Diderot in 2012, and a visiting professor at UAB in November 2021- March 2022. On June 3, 2015, she was nominated as an honorary professor at the Faculty of Languages of the University of Bucharest.

Her research activity covers various aspects of formal analysis, including nominal expressions in comparison with parallel phenomena in the sentence. She also deals with attrition and interference in translation, as well as first and second language acquisition, diachronic change, and synchronic analysis of previous stages of natural languages, and the comparative syntax of Germanic, Romance, and Balkan languages. She is particularly interested in the dissemination of metalinguistic awareness to support L1 and foreign language teaching for all, with a particular focus on students with atypical language development. For over two decades, she has been involved in promoting language policies to increase the visibility of women in management roles, administrative interactions, and the media.

She is among the founders and the director of Centro Studi sul Multilinguismo.

I regularly supervise MA students taking my Comparative Syntax, English Linguistics, and Language and Gender modules, which are evaluated through an original project presented in written or oral form. The Comparative Syntax module enhances qualitative and quantitative analyses of Romance varieties, including Italian dialects, Spanish, and Romanian.
