Overview

The inter-university Master’s Degree Programme in Religious Studies offers a comprehensive understanding of the cultures and historical contexts that have led to the emergence and development of various religious traditions. This programme is distinctive within the Italian academic scene due to its extensive curriculum and highly specialised courses, which are delivered collaboratively at the University of Padua and Ca’ Foscari University of Venice.
Courses cover areas such as the history of religions, philosophy and theology, anthropology and sociology, languages and literatures, philology, and the relationship between religions, science, the environment, the body and politics.
You will be able to choose a highly specialised pathway focusing on the traditions and thought associated with the religions of the classical world, the ancient Near and Middle East, India, China and Japan, as well as the monotheistic traditions (Judaism, Christianity and Islam) and forms of shamanism and magic, both past and present.
Alongside the study of philosophical, linguistic, and literary subjects, you may include a range of courses in your study plan that address current issues such as health and medicine, science, ascetic, esoteric, and mystical knowledge, ecology, and politics.
The teaching team forms a cohesive, dedicated, and motivated academic community, offering unique expertise within a collaborative and culturally enriching environment that remains attentive to the many career opportunities available to graduates of the programme.
