Exploiting AI technologies to support innovation through business models and strategies

VSM lecture held by Neil Maiden - Professor of Digital Creativity at Bayen Business School, London.

The event is available also online via Gmeet

The emergence of accessible and more usable generative AI technologies has renewed business interest in AI-powered innovation work. Last year saw a series of studies exploring the impact of chat-based GPT tools on the work of business consultants and other professionals. However, GPTs on their own are unlikely to meet future business needs. This seminar will report on research and development that resulted in Business Sparks, a new digital tool designed to support more creative thinking about business strategies and models. In response to both business needs and emerging opportunities, Business Sparks operates a hybrid architecture, combining generative AI and machine learning technologies with rule-based reasoning and creative search algorithms. Underpinning this architecture is the explicit codification of professional knowledge - knowledge about creative thinking strategies and business strategies - that enables us to explore important questions about what business professionals want from AI technologies.

Neil Maiden is Professor of Digital Creativity at the Bayes Business School at City, University of London, and Director of the National Centre for Creativity enabled by AI funded by Research England. His research interests include uses of artificial intelligence to augment human creativity. He is and has been a principal and co-investigator on numerous EPSRC- and EU-funded research projects with a total value of over £64 million. He has published over 220 peer-reviewed papers in academic journals and conferences. He chaired the Steering Committee for the IEEE International Conference on Requirements Engineering series 2009-2012, and was Editor of the IEEE Software’s Requirements column 2005-2013.
