Water Matters. Digital solutions and communication strategies for a better understanding of past extreme events

Relatrice: Elisa Corrò (VeDPH)

The seminar will explain two examples of interaction between human and natural events involving the Venice lagoon and the countryside during Middle Ages. The medieval landscape reconstruction does not present only the background of past events, but it is an indispensable and integrated element in considering and throughly understanding human activities. It has been a history of opportunities, adaptations and interventions, directly connected with a series of extreme chain reaction, which were not always forseeable. The landscape represents the theater of these events: the resources to draw on and the obstacles to be overcome. As a theater, indeed, thanks to digital tools it is now possible to take the human dimension into account, highlighting the history of a community and sharing knowledge and values.
