The course aims to provide a broad overview of the main and most recent issues discussed in monetary economics, i.e., the relationship between money and finance. Particular attention will be given to the development of major monetary equilibrium models, analysis of the links between money, finance and growth. Empirical analysis will be also conducted. As a consequence, students will become familiar to financial and macroeconomic aggregates dynamics. At the end of the course students will be able to analyze the main challenges central banks used to face.
This with the ultimate goal of bringing them closer to the real money and financial industry.
The course has a number of objectives:

(i) Understanding money and its role

(ii) Recognize the importance of fi nancial markets in the economy and understand deeply the interplay between money and finance

(iii) Understand the links among monetary policy, the business cycle, and economic variables;

(iv) Analyse the macroeconomic and nancial e ects of monetary policy shocks;

(v) Identify monetary policy uncertainty and its macroeconomic implications;

(vi) Investigate the pros and cons of a monetary union.

Student assessment will be via a written final exam. Students will have 60 minutes to answer to 16 questions ("multiple choice" quizzes).
