The analysis of the text is inserted in the historical - cultural discourse both in a diachronic sense, that is as a history of literature, and synchronically, as a specific phenomenon within a pulsating cultural system. The aim of the course is to provide a general picture of romanticism in Czech literature by tackling the 19th century Czech literary production, especially that of the 20s-30s and 40s.
Particular attention will be given to the figure of K. H. Mácha. The literary production of K. H. Mácha will be related to the cultural-literary reflection both in diachronic and synchronic terms. The very concept of romanticism, European and Czech, will also be investigated, as well as the changes that this underwent in the history of Czech literature.
Literary production will be included in a wider cultural discourse closely linked to the social and political changes that characterize the period examined, in particular the national question and the formation of a linguistic cultural space as a key reference for the national identity (České národní obrození).
The final exam consists of an oral interview on the contents of the module and on the final dissertation of the course.

Non-attending students are required to contact the teacher for the assignment of a specific topic related to the program to be presented during the exam
