A part of the three-year BA's Degree programme “Languages, Civilization and Science of Language”, this course is intended for students who have an interest in expanding their knowledge of the Serbian-Croatian language acquired during the first year. The teaching of Serbo-Croatian language consists of theory lessons and linguistic exercises. The course aims to bring students to a language competence level of B1-B2 (second year) and B2-C1 (third year), as indicated by the Common European Framework of Reference for Language Knowledge (CEFR). The language exercises are held throughout the year, while the theory lessons are held in the second semester.
By the end of the course, students will be able to:
- understand the phonological, morphological, syntactic and lexical structures of the Serbo-Croatian language;
- use linguistic knowledge in order to produce and understand a simple text or a written and oral message, placing it in the right cultural context;
- find and use bibliographic sources;
- recognize the differences between the Serbo-Croatian and Italian linguistic structures through a comparative analysis;
- contextualize the language in socio-cultural terms;
- communicate clearly in Serbo-Croatian in the communicative contexts of everyday life;
- critically consult the reference texts and the bibliography contained in them.
Having passed the Serbo-Croatian language 1 examination.
This course will focus on the theme of the verbal aspect, offering the theoretical notions essential for a correct use of verbs in Serbo-Croatian. This grammatical category will be presented in a comparative perspective to other Slavic languages, but also in comparison to Italian, where the verbal aspect is not grammaticalized. The topics covered will be: the morphology of the verb, the perfective verbs, the imperfective verbs, the biaspectual verbs, the imperfectivization, the perfectivization, etc. The course is intended for both second and third-year students of the Serbo-Croatian language.
The exam consists of a written and an oral test. The written test includes a dictation, verification questions and exercises applied on topics of morphology and phonetics; finally, the translation of a short text from the Serbo-Croatian into Italian and viceversa. The oral exam is aimed at verifying communication skills and oral expression, as well as the autonomy of judgment on the topics addressed during the course.
