The teaching activities are part of the Bachelor's Degree Program in History. They aim at helping students to acquire specific skills in investigating a research topic concerning the history of the Ancient Near East and in developing an advanced knowledge of the historical dimension of a specific topic in the field, namely, this year, the "Representation of military victory in the Mesopotamia world". The student is expected, at the end of the course, to gain the ability to develop appropriate connections, to detect persistencies and transformations in the Mesopotamia history, with regard to the chosen topic. He is also expected to acquire an adequate knowledge and ability in using the appropriate bibliographical methods and tools for the discipline and in using the discpline specific lexicon and methodology, also through a written essay and its presentation in class.

- ability to apply the acquired knowledge (lexicon, tools and main issues) in order to produce a sample of research, with a high degree of authonomy

The student should have either followed the introductory course (History of the Ancient Near East, module I), or acquired basic knowledge of the ANE history through personal readings.
Representation and narrative of the military victory in Mesopotamia.
The corse will focus on the ideology, military strategies, communication and socio-economic implications of the theme of victory in the Mesopotamian world.
Bibliography on a variety of sources referring to different areas and periods will be provided in class.
Students will be requested to read articles and primary sources available in translation in order to participate in discussions and data presentations during the lectures.
Individual topics will be presented in form of lectures. Students will be invited to engage in discussions and to raise questions in class.

Students will be requested to either write or presenting a short paper on a topic agreed upon with the teacher during the course. In case they cannot attend classes, a written essay on specific bibliography will replace this presentation
