This course wants to offer post-graduate students the possibility to enhance and deepen their knowledge of XX century Hindi literature focusing on some selected aspects of the ample linguistic and literary culture of the hindi-urdu world in modern and contemporary times. It thereby intends to further extend and complement the picture of hindi-urdu literature in a historical and cultural perspective already drawn during the courses on Hindi literature that are part of the under-graduate program, while focusing attention on the developments and tendencies that have characterized the literary environment of these languages in the course of the 20th century and, in some cases, the 21st century.
Acquaintance of a particularized and in-depth knowledge of the Hindi literary panorama of the 20th century. A good command on reading and understanding literary texts in modern Standard Hindi.
A good knowledge of written Hindi and a good working knowledge of written English allowing for an autonomous access to written source material.
The literature of the territory (anchalik sahitya) as a distinguished literary genre in South Asia in general and in the hindi speaking and writing areas in particular.

Written and oral exam. The exam will consist of a written part aimed at assessing the understanding of the issues involved in treating the main topics of the course, and an oral discussion on relevant issues as perceived and investigated by the student.
Expected duration ow written exam: 2 hrs.
Expected duration of individual session of oral exam: 15-20 minutes.
