The Physical Anthropology Laboratory (1 CFU), didactic activity and part of the Archaeology Laboratory SP is one of the training and guidance internships for the Archaeological Specialization course of the Master degree in Scienze dell'antichità: letteratura, storia e archeologia (Ancient Civilization: Literature, History and Archaeology). The aim of the course, both through lectures and practical work in the laboratory on ancient materials, is to provide fundamental skills for the analysis of human osteological remains coming from archaeological excavation contexts, with the purpose of performing the anthropological description of single deceased subjects and the paleodemographical reconstruction and lifestyle pattern of ancient human populations
The aim of the course is to develop theorical ad practical skills:
-knowledge and understanding of the basic human skeletal anatomy and specific glossary of terms
-knowledge of the main sex and age estimation methodologies for adults and juveniles
-capacity of description of the metrical, morphometrical, morphological, discontinuous and ergonomical traits of the human skeleton through the use of standard record sheets
-understanding of skeletal and dental pathological traces and comparison with "pseudopathologies" of other origin and cause
-knowledge of excavation, recovery, preservation and exhibition techniques and issues of human skeletal remains
-knowledge of literature on the topic
-capacity of autonomous work in the laboratory
