PRESERVATION OF ARCHIVAL AND LIBRARY MATERIAL

Preservation of archival and library material is mainly related to disciplines that include the study of the materiality of the archival and bibliographical heritage. On the other hand, there is a very close relationship with the teaching of "Conservation of books and documents", which should be followed only after having attended the classes (and possibly passed the examination) of Conservation of archival and book material.

At the end of the course and after passing the exam, the student knows the history, the main theories and the regulations underlying the preservation in archives and libraries. It also learns the meaning of the study aimed at the preservation and practice of prevention and maintenance.
The objective of the course is to enable archivists and librarians to carry out the actions of their competence in relation to the management of preservation and conservation in the institutions in which they operate or will be called upon to operate.

As students attending the Preservation of archival and book materials course usually have no previous knowledge of the subject, no prerequisites are required.

Learning will be verified by examination carried out in oral form. If possible, it will take place in a library or in a archive examining archival or library materials.
