The course of "History of Byzantine Italy" is part of the medieval teachings proposed in the three years and the master's degree. In particular, it completes the information acquired through the "Byzantine History" by enlarging the framework of the notions to the specific theme of Italy during the centuries of imperial rule. The teaching covers the political events, the organization of the state, the testimonies left by the Byzantines in Italy and the artifacts imported from the East now visible in public collections.
The main result expected from learning is to ensure that students know a historical reality that is an integral part of the Italian Middle Ages.
There are no prerequisites.
The course covers:
1. General knowledge of Byzantine history up to the eleventh century and the history of Byzantine Italy
2. the military history of Byzantine Italy
3. Testimonies of the Byzantine presence in Italy.

3) G. Ravegnani, I Bizantini in Italia, Il Mulino or alternatively S. Cosentino, Storia dell'Italia bizantina (VI-XI secolo) da Giustiniano ai Normanni, Bononia University Press.
The assessment of learning is carried out only with oral exams at the end of the lessons and in subsequent exams.
The teaching method foresees only frontal lessons.
