The course focuses upon the origins and development of the literary tradition of the poet-saints of Maharashtra. Particular attention will be paid to the relation between Sanskrit and Marathi and to the special features of this cultural tradition, which consitutes a sort of bridge between the North and the South of India

5. Siva Worship. Folk Gods Assimilated to Siva

7. Ganpati, Maruti and Other Gods
There will be weekly hand-outs
We will have the opportunity to discuss in class all the main topics of the course and this will be the best way to test one's understanding of the subject-matter.
