The course is focused on the contemporary Romanian poetry from the beginning of the XX-th century until today.

The course will be divided into two parts:

1) A short introduction will be focused on the important concepts of synchronization and westernization and on the constant dialectic existing in the Romanian culture between the contacts and the imitation of the European literary models and the influence of the native folk and folk substrate. Students will obtain some stylistic-formal coordinates, which are useful in order to analyse texts: the individuation of the relationships with European poetic forms and those with popular tradition, the different stylistical levels of the poetic language, the different thematic sources, etc.

2) The second part will focus on some key figures of Romanian poetry: Minulescu, Arghezi, Blaga, Stanescu, Blandiana, Ivanescu until the generation of the 1980s and the 2000s. The main stylistic-interpretative coordinates will be provided for each author, offering a selection of texts that will be analyzed. One of objectives is to underline the relationship of these authors with the western element and the native element. Furthermore, the course will focus on some aspects of the critical reception of the authors and on the translation problems.
At the end of the course, students will know:
